Here at BRI our two intermediary-only services mean we can offer insightful yet scalable investment management solutions to all types of client. Whilst we’re widely known for offering premium discretionary services for clients with larger portfolios through our Bespoke Portfolio Service, we can also offer clients with more modest investment needs cost-effective and robust investment planning through our Managed Portfolio Service. Even if your clients currently only have a couple of years’ ISA contributions, we can help manage these funds for you.

The Landscape

With the imminent Retail Distribution Review most advisors will, by now, have undertaken most of the work necessary to make their business fully RDR compliant. Indeed, prompted by the RDR, many forward-thinking IFAs are embracing external investment management as part of the solution to the many challenges posed by the new regulatory requirements.

Portfolio Management Services

As professional advisors will know, managing an investment portfolio with the care and professionalism it deserves is extremely demanding. The speed of economic and political change makes it ever more difficult for even IFAs to stay fully informed and interpret how their clients’ investments are affected. That’s why we offer intermediaries two competitively priced management services: our Managed Portfolio Service (MPS) and for clients requiring a more tailored arrangement, our Bespoke Portfolio Service (BPS).

Whichever service is the most suitable for your clients, both of them bring the benefit of our investment expertise, comprehensive research facilities and efficient administration:

  • We understand the value of your client relationships and we will work hard not only to manage your clients’ portfolios, but also to reinforce your relationships with them.
  • Whilst we remain benchmark aware, we are not benchmark constrained. Many managers simply track an index such as the FTSE 100 but we use our knowledge and expertise to invest in more sectors and investments that may out-perform markets as a whole, and avoid others that we think will under-perform. Managers who just track an index can’t do that.
  • We decide the most suitable size for individual holdings in your clients’ portfolios rather than letting the market decide for us.
  • We diversify portfolios to take account of different objectives and attitudes to risk.

Managed Portfolio Service

For clients wanting a seamless discretionary service but without the need for the flexibility offered by a fully tailored solution, we offer the Managed Portfolio Service (MPS).

  • With the MPS funds are invested in one of five alternative portfolio strategies, each designed to take account of different objectives and attitudes to risk.
  • Clients have their own individual portfolios of investments, managed on a discretionary basis by BRI’s expert investment team.
  • MPS portfolios are invested in collective investment schemes and will typically hold around 10 to 15 investments.
  • The MPS can accommodate a variety of tax wrappers including SIPPs, SSASs, ISAs, offshore bonds and traditional accounts.
  • MPS clients receive monthly investment updates discussing general market conditions and a quarterly factsheet summarising investment activity relevant to his or her chosen portfolio strategy.

Bespoke Portfolio Service

For clients preferring a completely bespoke arrangement and a portfolio tailored entirely to his or her own needs and wishes, we offer the Bespoke Portfolio Service (BPS).

  • Offering your clients the utmost flexibility, the Bespoke Portfolio Service can be managed on a discretionary or advisory basis.
  • Clients have their own individual portfolios of investments, managed on a discretionary basis by BRI’s expert investment team.
  • Offering greater flexibility, BPS portfolios can be managed either on a collectives-only basis, or also incorporate direct investment into equities, depending on the client’s needs.
  • A collectives-only BPS portfolio will hold a wider range of securities than the BPS model with up to 20 individual investments in a collectives-only portfolio and up to 50 if equity holdings are suitable.
  • The BPS can accommodate a variety of tax wrappers including SIPPs, SSASs, ISAs, offshore bonds and traditional accounts.
  • With the BPS we welcome and encourage regular dialogue and contact with you and your client. Following an initial meeting, each client will receive a uniquely-tailored portfolio proposal plus six-monthly valuations and an annual portfolio review meeting.

The BRI SIPP

Whilst professional advisors have, for a long time, recognised both the tax efficiencies and flexibility that SIPPs (Self Invested Personal Pensions) can bring to their clients’ retirement planning, some of the more sophisticated and robust SIPP structures have proven cost prohibitive for many investors.

That’s why we’ve launched the BRI SIPP, a technologically-advanced and FREE* SIPP wrapper that offers sophistication without the prohibitive costs frequently associated with such products. ISAs

Here at BRI we don’t regard ISAs as a separate product, but rather as an integral part of your clients’ overall portfolios. We simply see ISAs as being a tax-efficient wrapper in which your clients can hold their chosen investments.

You may have clients who have accumulated a number of ISAs across a variety of different managers and may now find the task of managing them increasingly time consuming and challenging. There may no longer be a cohesive asset allocation strategy in place or your clients may be finding it difficult to establish their overall portfolio value at any given point due to variations in valuation dates.

We can work with you to consolidate and restructure your clients’ disparate ISA investments into just one account with the BRI ISA. As well as making life easier for you and your clients, it will also ensure your clients’ portfolios are both actively managed and appropriately diversified. It can also widen your clients’ investment options: the BRI ISA allows your clients to select any ISA-eligible investment in line with their underlying investment strategies.

We’re able to transfer your clients’ existing ISA portfolio, either in-specie or in cash.
